This site intends to show the real strength of the Roman Empire did not come from military conquest with pitched battles for the glory of Rome, but from the mundane internal infrastructure that could sustain an empire. The Roman administration would give the people the basic necessities that would be demanded in modern living conditions, but also the ancient equivalent of theaters, sports, and government recognized religious and civil holidays. This method of building significant improvements in public health and welfare provided better means of long-term loyalties from newly incorporated citizens. Some of the improvements offered a level of infrastructure that exceeds modern levels in impoverished countries. State-sponsored public works that are detailed here will show how human migrations due to these improvements lead the blueprints to modern municipal public works programs, along with investment into entertainment of the Roman masses.
